Taking Your Mind Off Things

In order to get our mind "off" something -- we first have to put it "on" something else.  And preferably something that lightens our load, lifts our spirit and clears our head enough to help put things back in perspective.

Whether in recovery, or purposing to maintain a state of health, time for relaxation and rest isn't a "luxury" -- it's a "necessity"!  There's nothing like having a place you know you can go to escape temporarily from the "pressure-cooker" moments of life.  Some quality "me" time with a something like a good movie or one of those side-splitting "I Love Lucy" re-runs can work wonders!  Anytime you can draw joy, laughter, comfort, peace or just "downtime" for restoration, you're creating health and "life" within your soul, as well as every cell in your body!  I've come across some great  things recently and have decided to create a page to share them.

 And I personally loved
this one!

skizzer

By

A.J. Kiesling

In the last several months of getting my book through production there was just no getting away from it.  My mind was on "TBSP" overload, and you'd think the last thing I'd want would be to read another book -- but this novel was great!  Just what the situation called for.  I could hardly put it down!  And it had the "light-switch" effect I  needed to be able to turn off that relentless "thought-monster" so I could go to sleep.

And the farther I got into it, I couldn't help but think what a book like this could have meant to me during my recovery in those times when I just wanted to go "somewhere else" in my mind.  Instead of trying to figure out what was happening to me and what was coming in my life, I could have shifted my focus from time to time to figuring out what was happening and coming next in lives of the characters in "Skizzer".

The only problem I had was holding myself to only reading a couple of chapters each night.  As relaxed and sleepy as it made me, there were a few times when I just had to turn the light back on to read just one more chapter . . .  right before I dozed off.

After authoring 12 books, what a great first novel for A.J. Kiesling! And looking forward to many more!

The Revenge
             of the
 Mammogramee

I actually kept my mammogram appointment.

I was met with, "Hi!  I'm Belinda!"

This perky clipboard carrier smiled from ear to ear, tilted her head to one side and crooned, "All I need you to do is step into this room right here, strip to the waist, then slip on this gown. Every thing clear? '

I'm thinking, "Belinda, try decaf. This ain't rocket science."

Belinda skipped away to prepare the chamber of horrors. With the right side finished, Belinda flipped me (literally) to the left and said, "Hmmmm. Can you stand on your tippy toes and lean in a tad so we can get everything?'

Fine, I answered. I was freezing, bruised, and out of air, so why not use the remaining circulation in my legs and neck and finish me off?

My body was in a holding pattern that defied gravity (with my other boob wedged between those two 4 inch pieces of square glass) when we heard, then felt a zap! Complete darkness and the power went off!

"Oh, maintenance is working. Bet they hit a snag." Belinda headed for the door.

"Excuse me! You're not leaving me in this vise alone are you?" I
shouted.

Belinda kept going and said, "Oh, you fussy puppy... The door's wide open so you'll have the emergency hall lights. I'll be right back."

Before I could shout "NOOOO!" she disappeared. And that's exactly how Bubba and Earl, maintenance men extraordinaire, found me, half-naked and part of me dangling from the Jaws of Life and the other part smashed between glass!

After exchanging polite "Hi, how's it going" type greetings, Bubba (or possibly Earl) asked, to my utter disbelief, if I knew the power was off.  T

Trying to disguise my hysteria, I replied with as much calm as possible "Uh, yes, yes I did thanks!"

"You bet, take care" Bubba replied and waved good-bye as though I'd been standing in the line at the grocery store.

Two hours later, Belinda breezes in wearing a sheepish grin and making no attempt to suppress her amusement, she said, "Oh I am sooo sorry!" The power came back on and I totally forgot about you! And silly me, I went to lunch. Are we upset?"

And that, Your Honor, is exactly how her head ended up between the clamps........

"The Word" in Song

Healing music guaranteed warm your heart, put a spring in your step, and a smile on your home and everyone in it!

This is a CD I located online last winter that was my favorite music cassette tape back in the 80s.  It's uplifting, it's catchy, children love it as much as adults, but more importantly is that so many of the songs on the CD are based on healing Scriptures.  You'll feel like you can lick the world when you listen, because as you apply the Scriptures to your life, situation and circumstances - you can!  (Click below and see for yourself.)

You can listen to 3 of the songs to see if you like it.  The ones you can't listen to are right up there with my favorite song, "The Name of Jesus."

The only reservation I have about the CD is this:   There is one statement in the song "Mark 11:23 & 24" that I just have to change the words from "Your thoughts really do not matter," to "Your thoughts really, really do matter."  Because they do!  But if you take into consideration that this his tape was first recorded in the 70s or 80s "thoughts" weren't really thought to mean as much as what someone spoke into existence.  Which it is -- but almost all ministries agree today, the latest revelation revealed in the Word is that it all begins with "a thought."

"As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he."
                                                          Proverbs 23:7

My daughter, Kerri, plays this tape a lot in their home.  Ella (3-yrs-old) loves it.  It calms her when she needs calming down, which in turn makes Kerri's day.  Playing healing, uplifting, promised filled music in the homes saturates the environment - and even when you aren't consciously aware it's being played.  Some CD players play continuously and some people let music like this play quietly all night long.

"Scripture Songs 3" by David Ingles.  Visit www.diministries.org where you can listen for yourself!  It's the second CD on the page.

Be blessed and made every way whole!

Enjoy!
